What Is Microneedling?
Microneedling is a skincare procedure performed to boost the body’s natural collagen production. The result is firmer, smoother, more youthful-looking skin.
The procedure is carried out with the use of a dermaroller—a device that uses pinpoint needles that penetrate into the skin when the dermaroller is rolled over the face or body. In creating a controlled form of damage to the skin with these microscopic needles, it encourages the skin to produce collagen-rich tissue.
While this may cause redness and irritation initially, it will allow the body to produce more collagen, leaving the skin tighter and more toned while smoothing out wrinkles and giving you a more vibrant complexion.
Best Candidates
For anyone who wishes to have glowing and vibrant skin, Urban Beauty Bar brings professional microneedling near you. While often done as an anti-aging procedure to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, it also works as a preventive measure to stop wrinkles before they become visible.
The more collagen in the skin, the more likely it is that your skin remains toned, tight, and plump. Regular microneedling helps ensure that your skin stays this way, regardless of your age.
Having said that, if you’re dealing with acne or other skin sensitivities on your face, microneedling probably is not the best procedure for you. Since we are “damaging” the skin with small needles, microneedling will most likely worsen the condition of people with sensitive skin or acne. However, when booking with Urban Beauty Bar, we always provide a thorough skin analysis to ensure we are choosing the best treatment for your skin type and skin concerns. If you’re a client that deals with skin sensitivities and are interested in trying a Microneedling treatment, we can definitely help you get started on calming your skin with specific treatments and soothing products first before performing a Microneedling treatment on you. Microneedling is an amazing treatment for individuals that also want to tackle deep indented acne scars or acne marks. While we often suggest microneedling for those with relatively healthy skin who want to tighten, tone, and smooth out wrinkles, it’s a great option for clients looking to combat other skin concerns as well.
Is Microneedling Safe?
An automatic concern for many clients that are interested in this treatment is whether Microneedling is deemed as a safe treatment. For starters, we would like to assure you that Microneedling is an entirely safe treatment given that it is performed by an experienced professional. When we’re discussing the presence of needles and causing damage to the skin, it becomes overwhelming and can easily deter people from microneedling treatments. However, we want to make it clear that microneedling is minimally invasive with minimal downtime involved.
The needles used in a microneedling procedure are microscopically small and will not cause any extreme pain or discomfort. The treatment itself ensures that the skin has been numbed prior to performing the service to ensure our clients feel very relaxed throughout the entire procedure. Once the treatment has been completed, you may experience some redness and irritation after your procedure that may mimic a sun-burn feel, but nothing that should cause any extreme pain or discomfort.
However, as with any other cosmetic procedure, there is some risk involved that can include bruising, peeling, and infection. This is why it’s always important to have your procedure done under the care of an experienced esthetician like our staff at Urban Beauty Bar. At Urban Beauty Bar, we ensure that you are well-equipped with all information regarding pre-procedural and postprocedural aftercare to ensure a quick and easy experience.
Microneedling vs. At-Home Dermarollers
You may be familiar with DIY microneedling devices that can be purchased at your local drugstore or beauty store – unfortunately these at-home devices will not reach the required depth to promote collagen production. These non-medical grade devices minimally puncture the skin, lack any visible results, and in some cases, may cause scarring and infection as a result of improper use. To truly see a visible increase in collagen, a professional level dermaroller that has the ability to reach a specific depth safely while under the care of a professional is necessary in activating collagen production.
Is Microneedling Expensive?
While you can save money with homerollers, they won’t produce any visible results. Instead, paying for professional microneedling services is worth the investment if you’re looking to see noticeable results that can be achieved effectively and safely. The actual cost of the treatment will be heavily dependent on how much skin or areas you wish to cover during each treatment.
Are Microneedling Results Immediate?
Your skin should look visibly more toned after the redness and irritation settle down from your session. Microneedling is impressive in delivering a dewy and glowing look once 2-3 days have passed. The full results of each session will be visible from 4-6 weeks after your service as this timelines provides you with an ample amount of time to successfully shed off old skin cells and replenish your skin with new ones. However, in order to maintain your results and really ensure the full benefits of microneedling, we do recommend scheduling in regular appointments to upkeep that gorgeous glow just as any other facial or skin care service.
Does Microneedling Require Multiple Treatments?
Similarly to other treatment-based services, Microneedling may or may not require multiple treatments. Most commonly, clients will do a series of 3 treatments in order to achieve a great difference in their skin while others can get away with one microneedling treatment if they’ve also been taking care of their skin with other more invasive treatments. For any client that is looking to prevent and correct, we always recommend a series of minimum 3 treatments; however, prior to the service we always advise our clients to book a complimentary consultation with us to determine if the Microneedling treatment is really what their skin needs to achieve the skin goals they have in mind. Once a treatment plan is created and completed, our journey changes from a corrective and preventative stage to a maintenance stage which will require a treatment every couple of months to maintain that healthy skin! At Urban Beauty Bar, we love to help our clients feel beautiful in the skin they are in and work our best to ensure they receive the best possible results with the treatments offered in our clinic.
What to Expect
If you’ve never experienced microneedling, you might be curious about what you should expect both during your appointment and after.
During the procedure, you might feel some discomfort as the needles penetrate your skin, but keep in mind that it doesn’t take much for the skin to produce collagen. You will feel more pressure than what you might be used to if you’ve tried an at-home roller. However, this is exactly what makes a professional microneedling service worth the investment.
Worry not, as we can provide topical anesthetic during the procedure, as well as a calming treatment after.
After your appointment, you can expect visible redness and irritation from the needles. This should go down after one or two days. The amount of irritation will depend on the sensitivity of your skin. This is why we don’t recommend microneedling for anyone who has extremely sensitive skin or is acne-prone.

The Benefits of
Microneedling Treatments
Microneedling is often used as an anti-aging procedure. Since it helps stimulate collagen production, microneedling is excellent for toning, smoothing, and firming up the skin for a more youthful look.
However, microneedling can also be used for more targeted skincare concerns. For instance, microneedling is a great remedy for age spots and reduced skin elasticity, and of course, fine lines and wrinkles.
While microneedling is not recommended for those who are currently struggling with active acne, it can be effective at treating acne scars or any scarring you might want to reduce.
In addition, if enlarged pores or uneven skin tone is on your list of skincare concerns, we highly recommend booking with Urban Beauty Bar to experience the best microneedling in Etobicoke.
